I don’t know about you, but I am soooo glad that 2017 is almost over! Now I know that the concept of change coming immediately after January 1st is completely mental, but many of us decide we’re ready for those necessary life changes once we wake up to a brand new year. Now with great change comes great responsibility. With that being said, it takes hard work, dedication, and motivation to achieve your goals. Can you lose 50 pounds, land your dream job, and find your future spouse in 2018? Of course you can! Is it highly likely? Probably not, but that’s because most of us are lazy and hate the concept of major change. Well, here are my suggestions on how to kick butt this year and make 2017 wish it never messed with you in the first place!
Since Thanksgiving is tomorrow, I thought I might as well dedicate this blog post to being thankful for all the little things in our lives. Without going into too much detail, I’ve hated this year with every fiber of my being. Every time things seemed to be getting better, something worse would trump (for lack of a better word) the previous disaster. It became extremely difficult to focus on the positive aspects of my life. Do you know how hard it is to be pessimistic and run a weekly advice/inspiration blog?!? Trust me, it starts to take a toll when you feel like a fraud. Don’t get me wrong, I still struggle with being hopeful, but at least things seem to be going back to normal again. Once many of the negatives in my life started morphing into positives, I started to take notice of all the things I have to be thankful for. In our darkest hours, I think we tend to lose sight of these things. Well now I’m here to shed some thankfulness on you as well! So, you should be thankful for: Continue reading
One of the funny things about life, is that it continues to throw curveballs at us even when we think we have everything planned out. I tend to feel this way, A LOT! I think ever since I became a fan of planning for my long-term goals, I tend to become extremely panicked when things are simply beyond my control. I’m always shocked when either an individual or organization that I respect is lousy at giving me a solid answer and/or plan. Sometimes, I’m not even sure if I’m more frustrated or jealous that I’m more prepared than them. Lately, there have been multiple occasions where I’ve been faced with the rude awakening that sometimes you just have to have a leap of faith. The idea of this drives me just as nuts as the next person, but it’s true. Here’s what has helped me cope with this in past situations. Continue reading
Admit it, we all like to occasionally wallow in a shallow pool of our own self-pity. Why do we do this? We do this because of perspective. Ironically, the only way to keep from drowning in it is by using the power of perspective. “Haley, you’re not making any sense.” I get it, I’m contradicting myself here. Well, let me explain to you what I mean. Continue reading
Nothing is harder than dragging yourself out of a depressive state. As you may know, one of my favorites clichés to repeat is “when it rains it pours”. That’s how I feel like 2016 has been: pouring horrible things from the sky, one after another. Right when it looks like the sun is peaking out again, BOOM- another terrible thing falls on my head. Without going into too much detail about my personal life, it’s been affecting my eating, my sleeping, and my face (which is now decorated in splotches of acne that even the best quality makeup is having a difficult time hiding). Even though I’ve been somewhat keeping it together on the inside, my insides feel like a Walmart after opening up on Black Friday- full of utter chaos. Back in the old days when I was 12, I could listen to my Green Day albums and stare up at the ceiling for hours on end. These days, those calming angst-filled moments just don’t seem to cut it anymore. Even though I’m still working through some things (so we’re learning together, yay!) this is what has helped me so far. Continue reading
