Reasons to Fall in Love with Fall

I am one of those people who falls head over heals in love with the Fall season. Not only is the food amazing, but the fashion and weather are equally intriguing. I should probably mention that I am a fall baby myself, which makes me feel right at home during this holiday season. My birthday is actually on Thanksgiving Day this year, and it can’t get any more perfect than that! Don’t get me wrong, there are many reasons to appreciate every season, but let me explain why Autumn beats them all! Continue reading

My Go-To Places for Inspiration

I have a confession to make… I’ve been feeling incredibly uninspired lately when it comes to just about everything. I typically pride myself on being a very creative individual, but at the moment I feel completely unmotivated to explore new ideas. Even though I know this feeling plagues everyone at times, it can be really frustrating. I’ve been especially frustrated, since I have to come up with a new topic every week for this blog, and lately that’s been much harder than it looks. Luckily there are so many different avenues of art and history to get amazing inspiration from. Here are a few of my favorites! Continue reading

Halloween 101: How to Take Advantage of the Most Creative American Holiday

Halloween isn’t your average holiday for many reasons. Yes, other holidays involve eating candy and getting together with your friends and family, but this is the one day of the year you can literally be whoever or whatever you want to be. Not only that, but you get to watch people go all out and enjoy the bewildering creativity that many of us have. Whether you are young, old, male, female, religious, atheist, or whatever, everyone can enjoy a certain aspect of this spooky holiday. I always look at Halloween with fond memories. Whether it’s the giant variety packs of candy you buy at the grocery store, the seasonal release of Count Chocula cereal, or coming up with a new costume idea, I am a total fan girl over this fall holiday. Getting Back on the Diet Horse

Disappointment doesn’t even begin to describe the way I’ve been feeling lately. Last December I decided I was going to eat healthy and exercise until I hit my goal of 115 pounds. This goal would require me to lose a total of 25 pounds. Even though I still haven’t reached my goal, guess how close I got?  I got down to 118.7 pounds, which meant that I lost an overall total of 21.3 pounds overall! I only had 3.7 to go until I totally blew it. The first time I mega-cheated was during the week of my college graduation. Then it was Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, multiple family birthdays, 4th of July, and of course the weekly Taco Tuesday (which might as well be a legal holiday in San Diego). I started ballooning up again in no time, because, “Hey it’s summer and I totally deserve this.” The problem with someone like me is that I cannot think like that, or it will lead me down a rabbit hole of poor eating habits. Why Donuts Reign Supreme in the Pastry Kingdom

You don’t have to know me very well to know that I am a donut fiend. I truly believe that the donut is the only kind of food that could potentially bring peace on earth. I also have an unhealthy obsession with avocados, but I still think donuts would win the WWE smack-down of my hunger. Not only does the donut have a wonderful American history (which I actually wrote an extra credit paper in college about), but it defines the beautiful balance of simplicity and complexity into one fried dough ring. Let me break this down with some tasty little tidbits! Continue reading
